Roberto Santiago, one of South America’s most successful businessmen, is the developer of the largest shopping mall in the Brazilian state of Paraiba, the Manaira Mall. The mall is also one of the biggest in all of Brazil. Starting in 1987, construction of the mall lasted two years. The result was a modern shopping venue boasting retail stores, a large food court, banks, gaming areas, a college, movie theaters, a concert hall, and fitness center among other facilities.
Roberto’s Early Life, Education, and Career
Santiago is one of Brazil’s most celebrated entrepreneurs. Roberto was born in Joao Pessoa, on July 16, 1958. Roberto went to Pio X-Marist College and later enrolled at the University Center of Joao Pessoa to gain his undergraduate degree in Business Administration. He had a humble start to his career, working at the Café Santa Rosa. He then went on to start a company that made cartons for decorative purposes. This particular business not only turned out to be extremely successful and lucrative but also gave him valuable insights into managing a business.
About The Manaira Shipping Mall
In 1987, Roberto Santiago purchased land in Joao Pessoa, with plans to build a shopping mall. He commenced construction, with the Manaira Shopping Mall finally opening its doors two years later, in 1989. Since then, Santiago has expanded the mall five times, making it the largest shopping facility in the Paraiba state. In the twenty years that the mall has been in operation, it has become established as the premier destination for the residents of Joao Pessoa seeking entertainment, food, general shopping, and art, in addition to being an ultra-modern venue for significant events of all types.
Facilities At The Manaira Mall
Roberto Santiago’s flagship Manaira Mall has a total of 288 stores. Among the amenities that the mall provides include a gym and fitness center, a kids’ zone, a large food court, rooftop dining, a bowling alley, a college, electronic amusement park and several banks. The food court has been renovated three times – in 2008, 2012 and 2014. Among the many items available to shoppers at the mall include furniture, sports gear, jewelry, cosmetics, and clothing.
The mall gives visitors a choice of eleven movie theaters, with three of these installed with advanced 3D capabilities. The Domus Concert Hall is situated on the rooftop of the mall and is one of the area’s largest concert arenas. The Domus can accommodate an estimated 10,000 people standing and seats 4,000.
Roberto’s Retail Business Interests
Apart from the Manaira Mall, Roberto Santiago also owns and operates another modern shopping facility known as Mangeira, which he developed in 2013. Between them, the two malls have raised the economic and social profile of Joao Pessoa. The result is that several large corporations and well-known businesses have moved to the city to take advantage.
