Luiz Carlos Trabuco is what most companies would desire in an executive leader. Instead of leading a lavish lifestyle, he is a modest and well-educated family man. His dedication to his company, Bradesco, has been for an amazing 38 years and had lasted his entire adult life. The company could not have a better person to lead the company than him.

Taking Bradesco Forward
Trabusco had served as the head of the marketing team for the company since the 1980s. The more traditional and conservative nature of the company had previously shied away from tabloids. Trabuco decided to modernized the company’s marketing efforts and took every opportunity to launch PR announcements with the media. This was certainly one of the aspects that made him stand out as a potential CEO for the company.

A Modest Start For Luiz Carlos Trabuco
Many of you may assume that Luiz had family ties that led him into the executives’ secret club. The exact opposite is true. He had worked as a bank teller for the company since the age of 18. He spent most of his 20s working in these low-end positions while attending university. His education is also atypical for a finance executive.

It really wasn’t until the 1980s that he was allowed into more executive roles. In 1984, he served as the director of marketing and really turned around the company. The the 1990s, he served as the executive director for the company’s pension division.

Taking Up Responsibility In Tough Times
Luiz Carlos Trabuco was considered to be a runner up for the President position after the death of founder Amador Aguiar in 1991. The issue was that he was considered to be too young to take the position and it was given to another senior member (Márcio Cypriano). Since the company has a policy of cutting off the president’s term at 65 years old, they had to give the position to Luiz at the last minute.

There was quite the undertaking when Luiz had went into this position. First of all, Marcio had aquired several large financial institutions that had helped the company go up in market share. Luiz is in charge of handling and restructuring the new workload. He also inherited a poor financial climate. Loan growth had declined and their return on equity is several percentages lower than it had used to be.

About The Bank Bradesco
Bradesco is now the third largest bank in Brazil by total assets. It used to be the largest in the country until their competitors had merged into a giant. They are still running the company from the small suburb of Osasco, which is not far from the city of Sao Paulo.

There are over 5,300 branches of this bank located all over the country. Any Brazillian will be able to recognize the brand from a mile away. Pretty much all convenience stores, retail shops and supermarkets have a Bradesco cash machine located inside. They had also increased their accessibility to customers by becoming affiliated with the Banco24Horas chain of ATMs.

The bank does have a bit of an international presence that mostly caters towards Brazilians living overseas. Many of the financial centers of the world in New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Buenos Aires and others will have affiliated Bradesco branches. It is also traded publicly on the NYSE and in Spain.

The bank grew in recent years thanks to a number of major acquisitions. One of the most notable was the purchase of HSBC Brazil in 2015. They had also purchased Banco do Estado does Maranhão, Banco Mercantil de São Paulo and Banco Ibi S.A.
